Rare Earth Metals Reports Preliminary Results On Mineralogy Study From Lavergne- Springer Project skip to content

Thunder Bay, ON – Rare Earth Metals Inc. (“Rare Earth Metals”, “RA” or the “Company”) (TSX-V: RA; OTCQX: RAREF, PINK SHEETS: RAREF) is pleased to report that preliminary results have been received for a mineralogy study on prospect samples from the Lavergne-Springer Project. The Lavergne property is located in Springer Township, located immediately north of the Town of Sturgeon Falls and 80 km east of Sudbury, Ontario. Selective grab samples from the East and West Lavergne REE Zones (see previous press release dated June 28, 2011) were forwarded to Dr. Roger Mitchell at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario for identification of the major REE bearing minerals. A summary of Dr. Mitchell’s findings are as follows:

The REE mineralization is essentially synchysite, a REE-fluoro-carbonate mineral, typically prismatic, and fine to coarse grain up to 300 microns in size. The synchysite contains (wt.%) approximately 16.9 CaO, 13.9 La2O3; 24.3 Ce2O3; 2.2 Pr2O3; 7.4 Nd2O3 – hence light REE enriched. Synchysite distribution is very heterogeneous and is associated mainly, but not entirely, with fluorite, barite and Fe-oxide/hydroxides; liberation of this assemblage appears not to be problematic.

The Company is also pleased to announce that a zone of approximately 250 meters width of carbonatite and heavily carbonatized, hematized, and brecciated granitoid rock with pyrite and fluorite mineralization has been intersected in its initial hole of a 1200 meter drill program. DDH SL-11-01 was collared near the site of the previous drill hole 69-1 drilled in 1969 by Geophysical Engineering and Surveys Ltd. of North Bay, Ontario which tested the West Lavergne REE Zone. Results reported from Geophysical Engineering hole 69-1 included 1.22% REO over 63.3 meters. Results of drill core samples from this current hole are expected by the end of July. Photographs of the top part of the DDH SL-11-01 can be viewed on the Company’s website at www.rareearthmetals.ca.
